Bio
Claudia Torres is a PR practitioner with over eight years of experience in public relations, program development, community relations, cross-cultural communications, and nonprofit operations.
Originally from the beautiful island of Borikén, Claudia brings not only her charisma and professional experience but also a cultural and language awareness to everything she does.
Her interest in different cultures and languages led her to complete a BA in Multidisciplinary Studies: Psychology and Languages at the University of Puerto Rico in 2008. Later on, she finished her Master’s Degree in Communications in 2013, specializing in Public Relations at the Universidad del Sagrado Corazón. For her thesis, she traveled to India to work for a non-profit and then used this experience to immerse herself, even more, in the topic of network building through international partnerships. Living and traveling abroad has built her competency in diversity, equity, and inclusion.
Claudia has worked independently for many organizations and has also worked for Microsoft Corporation, The Radisson Hotel, and the Council on Aging of Central Oregon.
Torres has been recognized for her efforts in developing the vision and the strategies needed to help organizations grow their business and strengthen their public awareness. She has been acknowledged multiple times for her intuitive and optimistic attitude, innovative spirit, and enthusiasm.
She has helped organizations with the process of re-branding and messaging, developing and implementing culturally-specific programming, rapidly increasing organizational revenue, and has led teams towards success.
In addition, Claudia has put together many events, from boutique-style events to seminars to volunteer recognition events.
Claudia served as the Executive Director for Casa Latinos Unidos, an organization built by and for the Latinx community that provides vital services and programs to the immigrant and refugee population in Oregon’s Mid-Valley area. She came on board when the organization was about to shut down after 10 years of operating, and it was in deficit. In just about two years, she took the organization out of debt and into a healthy budget of 500k. She added 3 FTE’s, established HR policies with a consultant, acquired new individual donors, added 20 volunteers for events, and gave the organization the visibility and recognition it deserved.
Torres was also a member of LACE — a group of Latina consultants affiliated with the Nonprofit Association of Oregon. She sat at the Community Advisory Council of the Oregon Health Authority Office of Equity and Inclusion during her time at Casa Latinos Unidos.
She has done consulting work for Al-Santana Consulting, The Yoga Seed, Coco D’Oro, WEBCO, Sol Collective, Gimnasio de Emoxiones, and the Linn Benton Hispanic Advisory Committee.
Claudia is now living in Florida and looking for opportunities to collaborate in new projects related to equity, inclusion, policy, and environmental conservation.
